As a part of my Design and Social Justice class, I chose to design a newspaper publication that covers the Chicano Movement of the 1960’s—70’s. Throughought my educational career, this aspect of U.S. history was never extensively covered my elementary and high school classrooms. As a Chicano, I’ve always longed for more detailed education about Latinx issues. Inspired by the many Latino underground newspapers that existed during this time period, I chose to display my research through the pages of a newspaper publication. The images from the period are altered with a red overlay as an homage to the colors that were flown by Chicanos during this time at the creation of the United Farm Workers Union (red and black).
