La Loteria is an existing Mexican board game in which each player uses a chip, bean, or kernel of corn to mark the corresponding spot on their game board, or tabla, as a card is called out. It is referred to as “Mexican Bingo”, but much more visually and intellectually engaging. Growing up in a hispanic household, La Loteria was the highlight of family get togethers. It was a time in which I was able to reconnect with my family, as well as kick some butt and gamble for a bit. One thing this game has missed the mark in is a recognizable package design and visual identity. I decided to redesign the entire game by tracing back to the many aspects of my Mexican culture and upbringing within the card illustrations. I also introduced new, humorous terms in order to appeal to an audience of teenagers and young adults.
